What Is the Difference Between Sponge Abraisves and Regular Abraisves?

Sponge abraisve is a special type of abraisve made by implanting abrasive grains onto a sponge. It differs from regular abraisve mainly in the carrier of the abrasive grains. Additionally, sponge abraisve differs from regular abraisve in terms of the objects it can be used to polish, its shape, method of use, and lifespan. Generally, sponge abraisve is considered more durable, softer, more effective at absorbing water, and provides a better user experience than regular abraisve, making it a replacement for the latter. Let our China abrasive manufacturers take a look at the differences between sponge abraisve and regular abraisve below.

Differences between sponge abraisves and Regular abraisves

Sponge abraisve is a type of abraisve that differs from regular abraisve in that it is not made of paper or cloth but instead is made from sponge and abrasive grains. The following are additional differences between the two:

Can sponge abraisves replace regular abraisves?

With the invention and development of sponge abraisve, it has been used in more and more applications. Can sponge abraisve replace regular abraisve? Like regular paper-made abraisve, Sponge abraisve has abrasive grains implanted onto a layer of sponge instead, making it an advanced version of regular abraisve. In comparison, sponge abraisve is more durable, softer, more effective at absorbing water, and provides a better user experience than regular abraisve, and provides excellent pressure and force uniformity during polishing due to its sponge texture. Although the polishing efficiency of sponge abraisve is similar to that of regular paper-made abraisve, it is generally considered easier to use. Furthermore, sponge abraisves can achieve a more uniform finish than regular abraisve when using the same grit size. Therefore, when comprehensively evaluating both abrasive products, Sponge abraisve is a better option and can replace regular abraisve. However, sponge abraisve is more expensive than regular abraisve, and therefore is mainly used in fields with higher requirements for sanding, such as manual furniture sanding, plastic product surface polishing, automotive repair and repainting, metal rust and plastic surface processing, and other areas with higher sanding requirements. Regular abraisve is still more cost-effective for general sanding purposes.
